TOCO TOUCAN

Toco Toucan sculpture made from 100% piano parts. I used a lyre from an Ibach Sohn grand piano from the 1890s that was in poor condition and on its way to landfill.

The sustain pedal incorporated into the sculpture can be pushed down to make the beak move and could be used to hold onto sheet music or various small items.

The body of the bird is made from the opposite shift side of the lyre and is covered with black piano keys made of ebony, with some white keys being used for the tail and head.

The distinctive long beak is made from a pedal lever from an upright piano and the blue claws are made from painted bass strings.

I also used some spare leather and two Bluthner blue washers for the eyes, from a restoration project.
